This week, I’m bringing you “7 Hacks for Falling Asleep Faster,” and trust me, these are game changers. You’ll have to check out my video below to hear all of the details, but here’s a quick overview of the tips and tricks we’ll be discussing.
Blue Light Blues
The first few tips are intended to help you avoid the blue light blues – yes, it’s a real thing. Research has shown that blue light emitted from cell phones, laptops and tablets can inhibit melatonin production in the brain and as a result, increase the time it takes you to fall asleep. Don’t let it happen to you!
Consider the following before you head to bed tonight:
- By completely avoiding electronic devices an hour before bedtime, your body has adequate time to unwind and stimulate melatonin production in the brain. I know, I know – you probably love being on your phone before bed, but it could be inhibiting your ability to fall asleep quickly and get the best sleep possible.
- Also, try to avoid blue light during throughout the course of night. Bursts of blue light throughout the night will only make it more difficult to fall back asleep. To avoid this, place your silenced phone on the other side of the room to avoid reaching for it in the middle of the night.
- Another way to avoid blue light flashes in the middle of the night is to turn your phone on night-shift. To do this on an iPhone, simply go to settings à display à night shift. From there, you can set a specific time each night in which your phone will change its display color to more of a warm yellow tone rather than blue.
- I know we all love to watch TV before bed, but did you know that excessive nighttime TV watching can actually confuse your natural sleep mechanisms and interfere with your ability to fall asleep later in the evening? Yeah, I didn’t know that either…
